Fully
qualified and insured professional esthetician, Anna Short (MGPBT)
provides hair removal service for male clients.
Shaving
hair from the body removes the hair above the skin surface, leaving
behind prickly stubble which can be uncomfortable. Re-growth is
often noticeable the following day.
When
the hair is waxed it is removed from its root and re-growth is
generally not noticeable for at least two weeks. Initial re-growth
will appear soft and downy and therefore less noticeable than
shaved hairs when it does eventually come through the skin. Waxing
will be required again after approximately 4 - 6 weeks as the
rate of re-growth varies from person to person.
Waxing
can leave a slight rash on the waxed areas of skin so it is recommended
that you are waxed at least two days before you plan to expose
any of your waxed areas.
PRE-WAXING
- POINTS TO CONSIDER
A
full consultation will be carried out before any waxing is performed.
You will be required to give some personal information in order
to decide whether waxing is suitable for you. Some general points
for consideration are:
Hair
should be approximately 1/4 inch long for waxing. If having Extreme
Waxing, it is advisable to trim the hairs to 1/4 inch before your
waxing appointment to minimise discomfort. If you currently shave,
you should have 3 - 4 weeks of hair growth for your appointment.
Certain
conditions prohibit hair removal on some parts or all of the body.
Contra-indications will be discussed further during your consultation.
Medical
Practitioners do not recomment waxing for persons suffering from
diabetes or poor circulation as they may be more susceptible to
infection. It is recommended that sufferers from either of these
conditions consult their GP before booking a waxing appointment.
Waxing
is not recommended for clients taking Accutan, Reti A, Renova,
Differin or other types of skin thinning or acne medications.
Read labels carefuly and consult your GP if you are taking any
medication or using any creams that contain such ingredients.
Waxing
may not be suitable for mature skins or skins that have lost their
elasticity as the skin may pull and tear.
Most
people do not experience reactions beyond slight redness and minor
irritation. Occasionally, however, some people will experience
erythema, a hypersensitivity which can be brought on by waxing.
If you have very sensitive skin, have never been waxed before
or have been waxed and experienced extreme discomfort during or
after waxing, it is important to mention this during the consultation.
In some cases a patch test may be required before waxing is carried
out.
